Pegando Peixe are creatures whom dwell mostly in lakes, rivers and along the shores of pebbly and sandy beaches. While beneath the calm surface of a pond or dwelling under the crashing waves on the shore, they are unseenable by the naked eye to all who would look into dark and deep waters. They consider the watery places they take refuge in their homes and are very protective of them.
It is while you are blissfully unaware, by the water’s edge; they begin to make their move. First they allow themselves to take on the shape of many different fish, of all different sizes, colours and types. This helps ensnare the one who has angered the Pegando Pexe. Then still unnoticeable, they begin to rise towards the surface, their large claws reaching out, getting closer and closer to the victim, the swarm of fish helping to cover their ascent. While your curiosity is still caught by the illusion fish, the jump out of the water and grab you, to drag you down into the water, further and further away from the surface. It is there they hold you down, despite your best efforts to escape, until you lungs are full of the water you once stared into or drank from.
No one really knows what a Pegando Peixe looks like, some would argue that they have no true form and instead a mere essence that can interact with our world. If the legend is true, then the fish that appear are not native to these lands, and so must be the work of a trick of the mind, so if any of these strange fish appear before you, then run. Some say that the fish are the ghosts of those who have fallen victim to the Pegando Peixe and are forced to do their bidding for all eternity. There is no way to tell if you are dealing with a Pegando Peixe when you drink from a lake or swim in a river, all you can do is hope that while your legs are kicking beneath you to keep you afloat, there is nothing beneath you about to reach up and grab you.
