It is whispered among only the brave the tale of the Game. Some say it has long arms and legs, and a white ghostly body with the maw of a great wolf to devour its victims. Others say its body face has to no nose nor eyes, but steals away victims to borrow their sight and scent. Its body is like leather, and it has a spider's abdomen with man's hands to grab unwary souls. It doesn't matter which version you believe, the story is still the same.
A creature, born from the arms of all things repulsive and dark, is said to lurk the dark corners of the world nobody dares roam. Legend has it that the deep, instinctual fear of the dark and of anything that goes bump in the night is from this... Thing. When lights flicker and you think you've seen a face, you have been targeted. When you wander the woods, trying to get back home, and you could've sworn you saw something shift in the corner of your eyes, then you're being followed. When you're home, surrounded by loved ones and fellow friends, and you think you see a figure in the crowd, then it's almost upon you.
This is a game it loves to play. It will toy with you, pull your strings and push your buttons until you've gone mad. But, what everyone knows is that there's a way to win. The catch? You have to do it correctly, or you lose.
It will approach you when the sun sets, proposing to play hide and seek. You must respond with yes, then claim to be the one hiding. Run and hide where you sleep, then pretend to sleep. It never disturbs those deep in sleep and dreaming. However, you must not alert it that you are secretly awake. You win if the sun rises, for it will leave you forever.
You lose if you hear a bump in the night.
